Once many years ago, I was flying across the pacific and I saw an amazing lightning storm from the plane's window. It was on of the most amazing things I have ever seen. For many years I have always get the window seat and carried a camera in hopes of documenting lightning from a plane. On my trip to St. Croix I got incredibly lucky and saw 2 lightning storms!

This is the map of the above lightning shots taken flying between San Juan PR and NYC on the return trip. |

We saw a 2nd storm coming into JFK and lightning. Very sadly I was sitting on the wrong side of the plane. The moon was orange on landing. [see the video]

This was the radar when we took off from JFK to San Juan!! Arthur is just passing NYC and JFK at the time of our take off!
Sadly no good images of Arthur could be seen from the plane :(
Shooting lightning from a plane was on my bucket list- I was sooo happy to get this!! When I was younger I saw an amazing lightning storm over the Atlantic from a plane. The captain tired to get everyone to look out the the other side of the plane- trying not to alarm anyone. Sadly I did not have a camera on my person and ever since I have tried to shoot lightning again from a plane. I got very lucky I had just attended my cousins wedding and it was and incredible way to end an amazing trip. |
